There are several strategies that students can employ to better their English as a Second Language (ESL) Training in Calgary.
1. Total Immersion- This strategy has been proven time and time again to be the most effective way to learn a second language. For instance, speaking only English in the classroom or at work, going out for movies (in English), and surrounding yourself with native English speakers.
2. Reading- Try reading the first page of the newspaper each day. By using Google Chrome, you can easily add the dictionary extension and define and pronounce new words instantly. I always suggest reading: http://metronews.ca/news/calgary/ Also, visit the Calgary Public Library for a vast resource of ESL learning labs, books, and more.
3. Writing- Keep a diary or journal and write about your experiences each day. This may include new grammatical concepts or your personal thoughts.
4. Watch English Movies/TV Shows- Too many students revert back to watching news, TV, and movies in their own first language. We always suggest watching American movies (with subtitles). This has the added benefit of improving your knowledge and use of Canadian business culture.
As a supplement to your ESL (English as a Second Language) program in Calgary, try the above strategies to quickly improve your English at the workplace.
